HOW TO BUY: Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum (Step by Step)

738 ratings | 22704 views
You’ve asked (and asked, and asked), and I’ll deliver - here’s a step by step guide of how I purchase Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum using Coinbase and GDax. Thanks for watching! Coinbase link: https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a20f244e07edf019d1ce550 (You get $10, I get $10 after your first $100 purchase - totally up to you if you use it or not) Disclosure - I’m showing you exactly what I did, and by no means am I endorsing you buy Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. I’m treating this money I use as my gambling money, it’s not going to make a big difference to me if it goes up 10x or falls 90%. It’s extremely volatile, extremely risky, and at this point, I believe the market is strongly driven by speculation. Do this with good intentions and this is not a get rich quick tactic. Make sure this is money you can afford to risk, and by no means should bitcoin replace a historically proven investment strategy. Do your own research! However, if you’re like me and want to play around with it and learn about it firsthand with money you can afford to lose…here you you. First, I made a Coinbase Account. As an err of caution, always make sure to use google authenticator. I’m overly cautious and have my cellphone provider require a password + last 4 of my social to get access my number. I also have a second cell phone and number, not linked to me, to use for all of my accounts with a google authenticator app. So make sure you set yourself up where no one can gain access to your account without your permission. Coinbase is an easy simple to use website, but the fees or wait times tend to be out of control. For this reason, I recommend using either a bank transfer (can take 5-10 days, however) or a wire transfer. However, I’ve preferred to skip coinable altogether and instead use GDax with my Coinbase account. It looks a little more complicated than a coinbase account, but it’s very easy to learn in a few minutes. Once you’ve created your GDax account and gone through their verification, you can use the steps outlined in the video to wire/bank transfer your money and place your order. I prefer limit orders because they’re free and work great if you have the patience to watch the market or wait until your order is filled. Finally, once your order is filled, I wouldn’t recommend you just keep your Bitcoin on GDax or Coinbase because sites like this have been hacked before. Instead, you can look into a hardware wallet like a Trezor or Ledger Nano S. This way your currency won’t be at the mercy of their servers. Please do your own research on cryptocurrency security to find what’s right for you. Thanks so much for watching! Hey all, just wanted to pin this at the top. I was hesitant about posting this today since this marks the second crypto video in a week. I totally get it, it's a lot. This one was a bonus video since so many people were asking I make this video. I read every comment and take any bit of constructive criticism seriously. I know many of you are tired of hearing about crypto and want more real estate, and that's what I plan to do. Even though my focus will always be real estate, I still like to cover other videos I feel fit in line with investing and just being an overall better person than the day before. Whether that's real estate, stocks, how to invest your way to a millionaire, how to live for free..and yes, maybe a crypto vid every now and then. But rest assured this will not be a crypto channel, the focus will always be on real estate, and the other videos I make will be around other things I've learned along the way that I've found interesting and helpful. Hope this clears it up a little bit. Don't worry about this becoming a crypto channel.

Hey Graham, I've come to this channel already being heavily invested in the crypto space, trying to diversify into real estate. I'm really excited to see you diversify (albeit in the opposite way to me). Just give it some time; consistency is key. It would be great if at some point you start using profits from crypto to invest more into real estate! Keep up the good work :)

People who think crypto will be some sort of currency utopia out of reach from banks or big government are delusional. Governments have really really big guns. They will allow crypto as long as its no threat to their influence and control.

Just choose one platform that supports all cryptos then buy, done deal.

Pretty much as long as I'm invested in Cryptocurrency, it will only go down. Last year Bitcoin was way up there. As soon as invested it took a dip. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all.

I like how people are backing this as a currency when it is a digitally engineered commodity. Banks lend and earn on interest. Crypts don't. Real currency is backed by the markets valuation of its international exchange rate. When you see how coins are mined you realize you are just buying entropy. The Idea is a great idea but that's all crypts seem to offer. Every proponent either looks foolish (besides Graham) or crazy (eat their own dick crazy). #toobigtofail^2
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
I don't know man, I felt the exact same way before I began really getting into it. I'm not the type to eat my own dick or anything if BTC doesn't hit $1m, but at the same time, I realllllyyyyy see the potential in this. BUT, it'll be cool to look back at this in 10 years and see what happened. Personally, I see this taking over only because I see more and more people adopting this...but it could just as easily go the other way. I'm bullish though, and i'm pretty conservative when it comes to these things.

How do I buy bitcoin without a cell phone? I have good computer speed and excellent internet access but, no cell phone. Coinbase and GDAX both absolutely require cellphones. I have a landline that does not text or receive texts. That is unless I did it wrong. Both Coinbase and GDAX will "text" a code to a phone. Unfortunately I can't receive the code. However I have no problem with the "code" sent to my email. So, how do I purchase bitcoin without a cell phone?

Important to mention that crypto holds are taxed at the same level of your income tax if held for less than an year. After a year it's a long term capital gain at %18. There's been a lot of analysis between day traders and holders and it's been essentially confirmed you make more holding anyhow.

LTC is probably one of the better cryptos to be in right now. 2018 is going to be a good year for a few of them. LTC, Ripple, NEO, Bitcoin, Ethereum will all have a good year if you hold and wait for more global adoption and acceptance. Litecoin is ahead of the game when it comes to typical daily transactions which is going to be huge in retail and when it comes to international transactions. Also think about the online gaming industry, Amazon, etc..

Hi Graham. Since I've been following you you've given me some great ideas. I started watching your videos with interest in real estate. Followed by 401k and Roth IRA, then Vanguard. I now have Robinhood on my phone as of 2 days ago. I chose VOO stock of course but also bought some stock in Tesla, Bank of America, eBay, Paypal, and SiriusXM. Hope I made some good choices. I was going to go with a full on Vanguard S & P 500 index fund but have funds caught up in a 2.960% APY CD (only 5 month investment luckily). I also have started investing in Bitcoin. I just purchased a very small fraction of BTC market rate on GDAX today while 1 BTC was valued at $16875! Crossing fingers that it wont go further down. Thank you for all your videos and I really appreciate the effort you put into uploading regularly and keeping us up to date. Your videos help me more than you could imagine. I started a HashFlare cloud mining account using SHA-256 putting in a light investment of 20 TH/s. Would you consider cloud mining or too risky?
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
Dude well done! As for cloud mining I'm not too familiar with it so I could say? But honestly man so happy to hear everything you've done!

Graham, Looking for your help here. Two business partners are real estate investors. Our company is an LLc, we have profits we would like to take a small amount of and invest into some crypto’s. I myself have invested in crypto personally on my own which was simple to do. But I’m having trouble finding the way to do it under our company name. All the exchanges seam to just walk for first and last name. We tried using the majority stake holders name which for us a Coinbase account but then when we go to send funds through a wire or use a credit card they say it cannot be processed because the name on the card doesn’t match the name on the account. Please help if you know any way to make this happen. Thanks in advance.

Grant, I think it's fine posting 2 crypto videos in a week. I swing trade stocks right now and have also been a subscriber of your channel, learning about real estate investing and whatnot. TBH, it's fine posting 2x cryptocurrency videos in a week as I'm also starting out in crypto with all this hype and my friends getting on it. So it'd be nice to watch videos from a beginner investor (trader?)'s experiences and learning how to trade it. So go for it; everyone's take on crypto is different -- just because there's a lot of videos on cryptocurrencies already doesn't mean everyone share the similar view. I just so happen to be a subscriber of your channel so naturally I'd watch your cryptocurrency videos versus actively searching for cryptocurrency topics on YouTube to watch.
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate the insight. May stick with one here and there, but don't want to get overboard with too many for the sake of making crypto videos. People seem to be so split on it, so I don't want to alienate anyone who doesn't want to watch. May do another whenever something happens!

Yeah, it's trading not an investment when it comes to Bitcoin. I'm glad that you have put it now that way. And I don't think that buying Bitcoin has to be emotional. For many people it is, but I believe that it's going to go up for some more months. The only important thing is to realize that it is not an investment but speculation. And therefore one should be very careful when to sell it. I consider buying bitcoin right now, when it has done a correction and than I would use a sort of trailing stop loss - maybe to lock 50% of earning. But if someone thinks "I buy it and I'm gonna have 2 times more in some days for sure", they don't know what trading is about and they shouldn't do such things until they learn something about it... Don't you consider make a video on trading? :)
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
I agree with you. At this point, the volatility somewhat kills it as an "investment," but I also see this being around for quite some time and eventually stabilizing at a much higher price. There could be a lot of money to be made, but only if you can stomach the volatility and price swings.

When i buy my first house, should i wait for my first house to be fully paid off for me to buy a second one? Give me a good tactic on how to get more houses in a short amount of time. It would take years for the house to pay it self off from rent money, how do i move on to a second property straight away? Remortgage? How did graham manage to own 5 houses at 27 and are they all paid off?
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
I absolutely wouldn't wait for one house to be paid off before buying another. Leverage is so important in real estate, so I'd buy another property as soon as you have the money and find something that cash flows. As for me, only three are paid off (and those were bought really cheap), the other two have loans on them!

Unsubscribed. Doing these kinds of videos on how to buy crypto when we're at the top of the speculation bubble is just socially irresponsible and you know it.
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
I thought we were at the top of the bubble at $2000...then $5000...then $10,000...I've been wrong time and time again. At this point I see its not going anywhere and while the price can fluctuate massively, I overall think it's here to stay.

This is the de facto standard of how to get started in crypto... articulating the risks from a balanced minded investor, drawing in the audience further by showing the benefits of using the gdax vs coinbase UI and expressing genuine concern over your subscribers money by providing disclaimers that help convey the appropriate perspective on how much one should start with. Thank you Graham!
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
Thanks man :) Yeah, last thing I'd ever want is for someone to risk what they can't afford to lose. And we all know Bitcoin could swing massively in price, so it's not for everyone.

You should maybe think about making a crypto channel. I'd love to see you wonder your way through this and I'm truly interested in seeing what you plan to do, what you are accomplishing and such. It seems that the people in the comments don't want to know or see stuff about this. I mean, this is a business channel sort of, this should fit perfectly but it apparently does not for most.
Graham Stephan (10 months ago)
I wouldn't have time for two channels unfortunately. I barely have time to make 3x videos a week on this one 😂 I'll likely just limit crypto talk here and keep it more balanced!
Mister Fister (10 months ago)
Anyone that buys Bitcoin and plans to invest it because they fear missing out on the opportunity should never buy it. In this sense, you are buying EMOTIONALLY. Likely, if you buy emotionally, you will sell emotionally. If everyone starts to sell their Bitcoins, the price falls a bit, you will probably not hold it and will sell emotionally. This is true for gambling, stocks and obviously as I'm implying; crypto. If you don't plan on investing a decent amount of money, do not buy Bitcoin. I promise you it is NOT worth it as fees will literally destroy your bank account. When I first did some exploring, I paid 155 CAD to have over $35 CAD go into fees. The closer your value of bitcoin is to one, the fees are lower. In this sense, to avoid exorbitant fees, you want to purchase a fair amount of Bitcoin, an amount closer to a single bitcoin, which is like 20k if you are trying to avoid fees. This is similar to an analogy I saw on a wallet website mentioning fees. Think about it as buying things with pennies compared to a loonie. Although you have the same total amount, it takes more time to add up all the pennies then it does to accept a one dollar coin. Therefore, the fees for the dollar will be much much lower as the system has to use its networks and servers to count your pennies which takes time. As this happens, it is harder for the system to count, so it will overall cost you more money to use pennies. That is for AFTER you buy your Bitcoins and try to transfer it to a wallet for example. When buying Bitcoins from Coinbase initially, you will still get smacked with a large fee. This is definitely why I really recommend using a referral link as Coinbase gives you $10 which should cover almost all your fees. This is obviously if you do not choose the GDAX method that Graham showed. EDIT: A loonie is a single Canadian dollar in the form of a coin. It's called a loonie because there is a picture of a Loon on the coin. It's the same thing as an American dollar bill.

The acryptoa portion of the word denotes the cryptography used to ensure the blockchain, and the acurrencya portion of the word denotes the ability to exchange the tokens for goods and solutions. The absolute pacifism part is assumed I think, in spite of someone having the capability to locate some examples where it may appear otherwise. What you share is is an instance of absolute terror onto people who ought to be fought if it may be. The numbers won`t be good. Today they are much higher.
You`ll reap the benefits for the very long haul if you stick with your advertising and marketing guns. There are certain sorts of offerings that have special exemptions from the full blown registration practice. The range is hard to specify, taking into consideration the diversity in choices. According to the provision, the scope of the very first transaction in NEPSE is within three times the provider`s book value.
When the project is completed, the tokens value is probably going to increase because there is currently a tangible item, instead of simply an idea. After all, research demonstrates that clients use their networks to choose consultants more than every other method, and they, without doubt, know somebody who knows you. Getting knowledge in the region of property investment is insufficient. You may observe I didn`t speak about a few skills. After all, in case you have a saleable skill, it`s a simple business to enter.
A collection company cannot collect any sum of money that isn`t permitted by law or by agreement. Furthermore, it would be required to show the terms of that agreement in court. It is not surprising that consulting is attractive to numerous individuals who wish to launch a company. You also have to know the way the corporation will account for the exchanging of tokens. Starting a public company is a complicated and costly undertaking. Doing so makes a contract that might be binding. If you haven`t signed a contract with the collection business, you owe them nothing.
Inside my view there is just one house, and all of us live in it. Property should not be damaged. In addition, should the property is well-connected to the public transport, then it aids in giving a good advantage, particularly for the middle-class family.
As previously mentioned, the majority of the above coins are offered for purchase direct from the Royal Mint. Offerings where the total raised is less than one million dollars come beneath a special procedure that is far less complicated. Once more, money well spent. Another method is to commit your own money. It s pretty obvious to anybody who reads the accounts. You DON`T need to make a new account.
Enterprises and entire countries are now able to block Tor traffic without any issues. Nobody is suggesting that it isn`t the work of liberal Whites to oppose what`s wrong. To the contrary, the investments with the period of time of over five years are called as long-term investments. Original investors can then opt to sell their tokens to earn a significant profit.
